On the path of equality on picardy territory: European girls and boys take action!
The project
The project “On the path of equality on Picardy territory: European girls and boys take action” is a youth exchange visit in a rural area which regrouped 40 girls and boys from four countries (Finland, France, Ireland, Romania). It took place from the 6th to the 17th of July 2009 in Songeons in the county of Oise at the Maison familiale rurale. During these 11 days, the European teens investigated the different roles within the region by societal status and sex, and compared them to the situation in other parts of the European Union.
The equality between men and women is a topic we don’t hear a lot about anymore. In most of the European countries, gender equality is written in the Law and a lot of social progresses have been won. European Union have been promoting women and men equality for a long time and trying to make it concrete by making work researchers and practitioners on this stake and supporting projects fighting for it. However, to make equality concrete, we have to talk about it, to experience it. Our society is moving. What are the relationships between men and women today? What do the young generation want them to become?
Pedagogical workshops
This part of the DVD has been thought after the end of the visit, as a pedagogical support to the video clips made be the young video team.
This pedagogical part of the DVD is a tool aiming at making a group sensitive to the gender equality and to inform people about what the group has discovered during the visit.
How to use the pedagogical workshops part
This part of the DVD can be used as a support to make a group sensitive to the theme. Beyond the aim of the intervention, the whole DVD can be broadcast, or just a part of it.
After an introduction which presents the pedagogical process applied to the project, this part of the DVD as been based on clips made by the young team video during the visit. Documented sequences on different thematics linked to gender equality as been added to them to fuel the unrefined material collected by the young video team. With figures, definitions and socio-historical information, these sequences should provoke a debate with teenagers or adults groups.
